* OUR LATEST NEWS *

It's been a long winter. Spring is here, (at least that's what the calendar says)........

Despite April snow. it's beginning to look like Spring.... Sort of !!!!

In March we rescued Lightning, a three year old Paint stallion. He's blind in one eye, but healthy otherwise. He was simply unwanted, and would have been disposed of in some way. He's had little handling so he's sort of afraid of people, but he is getting better each day.

In January we rescued a yearling Morgan stud colt who was born without any lower teeth on his left side. Besides the teeth, he can not move his ear on that side. He's a rarity, since we have yet to talk to any vet who has ever seen this situation. Because of the missing teeth, he always has a large lump on his left cheek, from food getting packed in there. His owner breeds Morgans and said no one would buy him because this lump makes him look ugly. Personally, while he looks funny, and that food must be worked out of his mouth daily, he's actually very cute, and has a very sweet disposition. He would have been taken to auction to be disposed of. We're glad we have him. He's healthy otherwise, and should make a good riding horse, that just needs a little extra care.

The bad news, we lost Sierra on March 31 from old age. She could not get up anymore, and had to be put down. She was always a good horse and we miss her very much.

PLEASE HELP US

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Due to the poor economy, and ethynol production for fuel, hay prices have nearly doubled in the last year alone. While people are struggling to pay their bills, donations have also decreased. This is making it really tough to keep our sanctuary going. Besides spending around $800 per month on hay alone, there are other needs and expenses, as well as emergency vet bills and other unexpected expenses.

We are presently about $1400 in debt, and our electric bill became very high this past winter from the long and extended cold spell, forcing us to run numerous water tank heaters. While the costs keep rising, for the 32 equines, presently at the sanctuary, as well as many small animals, we struggle to continue.

We badly need your donations. PLEASE DONATE to the horses this Spring. Our futuree depends on your donations.

If you want to donate, we surely can use cash, but we can always use hay, horse tack and supplies, farm equipment, gates, other supplies, dewormer, probiotic paste, and other medications. We could also use a newer computer, since this old 1000mhz pentium III is a bit slow, and old. We could also use hard drives to back up our data, even smaller ones will help.

If you can donate, please send an email to: cshorser@centralpets.com

Spring 2008 Findraising Thermometer

* Please remember the horses this Spring (and beyond) *

We need to raise $5500 to pay off all of our debts and purchase feed in the months ahead. We also want to build two more shelters and install another solid fence for the horses with vision problems since they can not be placed in electric fencing. Can YOU help?

While the temperature outside is rising, please help our fundraising thermometer rise.

We can't survive without your help.........

Our Purpose

Central States Horse Rescue was founded in 1995. Back then we were "Wisconsin Horse Rescue". We have grown quickly over the years. We have participated in helping many abused and/or neglected horses in these short years. "Central States Horse Rescue" was originally self funded, but we soon discovered that expansion required funding through donations. Thus we became a not-for-profit organization. We are a PRIVATE rescue center, NOT a 501c3, non-profit. However ALL donations are used entirely for the horses. No one receives a salary for this effort. However, our priorities dictate our main goal is to help needy horses, not to do fundraising. Our goal is to intervene in cases of abuse and neglect, purchase horses destined for slaughter, and to offer them sanctuary. With this in mind we humbly ask for your kind donations, both large and small. We are located on the Wisconsin - Iowa & Minnesota borders, and mostly serve these three states, and other surrounding Midwestern states, in approximately a 250 mile radius.

Besides feeding and caring for these horses, We like to let people enjoy the rescued horses, and those which we have personally adopted. This is particularly useful for persons who do not have their own horses, or who are located in areas which make it difficult to be around horses. The ponies have been most useful in this regard, since they teach children the care of horses, and their wonderful nature. Our goal is to have more programs available for children in the future,

In addition to enjoyment, these persons are taught the "gentle" methods of caring for horses, and encouraged to share their knowledge with other horse owners or anyone who owns or cares for animals. It is hoped that anyone who associate with our horses, become the carrier of knowledge that will hopefully prevent others from abusing and neglecting horses. Finally, we have found that formerly abused horses actually help "heal" the new abused horses when we get them.

ElderEquineCare

I am now offering elderly equine care (EEC). Do you have a horse or pony that is getting old, and you can no longer care for this horse, but want them to spend their last years retired, and with good care? Here is how it works. I will provide this horse with that needed care, and you (the owner) pay for their care. The horse is still yours, and you can come visit them anytime you want. You will be charged a set monthly fee for basic care and feed. Whenever the horse needs veterinary care, medicines, special feed, or other special needs, you are required to cover those costs. This not only helps that particular horse, and the owner, but any surplus money left over from the set monthly fee will be used to help the other rescued horses. I am hoping this will assist in our fundraising efforts, while helping elderly horses and their owners. If you could use this service, please send email.

Are you tired of Popups? We maintain this site on 50megs.com at no cost to us. However, 50megs.com puts those annoying popups on all of their websites, and that is how they advertise, along with the ads on the top of the pages. We have no control over these ads. However, you can download a free popup stopper for your computer. There are many available online, however, we use and highly recommend "Free Surfer", available at: http://www.kolumbus.fi/eero.muhonen/FS

This site is developed and maintained by Central States Horse Rescue, using Netscape, Windows 98, Notepad, and DOS "Edit", on a Pentium II 700mhz computer. No special software, plugins, or other add-ons are used, or required. Our goal is to keep it simple so anyone can access the site, rather than eliminate those with older computers. If you experience problems, email us. We have no control over the popup ads placed on our page by 50megs.com. However, disabling Java script in your browser will eliminate many pop-up ads. This site does NOT need java script to operate correctly.
